Ignacio Porras (ORCID 0000-0003-0754-8717) is the Project Leader. He formed the first research group in Spain on BNCT, receiving the first grant for BNCT research in Spain from the Junta de Andalucía on the call of 2011 (270 k€). His research was awarded by the Spanish AECC in 2016 (Singular Project award) with a grant of 143 k€ for BNCT research. He has established collaborations with CERN (n_TOF), ILL Grenoble, the Italian INFN and the University of Wisconsin (USA).

He is currently the President of the International Society for Neutron Capture Therapy (2018-2023), elected by unanimity in the ICNCT-18. His research has attracted donations from different spanish foundations which led to the creation of the University Chair “Neutrons for Medicine” in 2018, of which he is the director. He is an inventor of the patent application “Optimal Beam Shaping Assembly for BNCT” (P202030854, 9/08/2020).  He has published more than 80 papers on JCR journals.

Maria del Carmen Ruiz-Ruiz (ORCID 0000-0002-6243-6227) is Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology III and immunology and the director of the Doctoral School of Health Sciences at the University of Granada. She has an h-index 24, 47 publications (37 Q1) with more than 2200 cites, 3 book chapters and 1 patent (P201500022, 2014). She has more than 25 years of experience in the study of tumor cell death. Since 2012, she gets involved in the formation of the first research group in Spain in BNCT, participating in several experiments in the Institute Laue-Langevin (ILL-Neutrons for Science). She has recently received a grant for experiments of fusion as an energy source and radiological protection (50k€), to provide data for future irradiations at IFMIF-DONES (International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility DEMO Oriented Neutron Source). In the context of the IFMIF-DONES project, she has also been granted with a predoctoral fellow, in collaboration with CIEMAT (CSIC).

Javier Praena is a Professor at the Department of Atomic, Molecular and Nuclear Physics and is an internationally recognized experimental nuclear physicist.

He has recently been the physics coordinator of the neutron time-of.-flight facility at CERN (Switzerland), and the spokesperson of the first experiments performed at n_TOF for neutron capture therapy. He is also the leader of the working group on other applications of the projected neutron facility IFMIF-DONES for fusion material research, of which Granada is the European candidate. He has also developed the neutron source HispaNoS at the Centro Nacional de Aceleradores de Sevilla. He has published more tahn 80 papers in international journals, more than half of them being Q1. He is an inventor of the patent application “Optimal Beam Shaping Assembly for BNCT” (P202030854, 9/08/2020).

Fernando Arias de Saavedra is a professor of Physics and the Director of the Department of Atomic, Molecular andNuclear Physics of the University of Granada. He has thirty years of research experience in the theoretical description of atomic and nuclear systems. He has been the Principal Investigator of different projects from the National Research Plan: Monte Carlo Simulation of Quantum Systems (FIS2015-69941-C2-1-P), Monte Carlo Quantum Techniques applied to finite systems (FIS2012-39617-C02-01), Realistic description of atoms and nuclei with dynamic correlations (FIS2009-07390),  Dynamic correlations and mean properties in fermionic systems (FIS2005-02145) and the CEI BioTic Study of new routes for the production of radioisotopes for use in medicine (P-BS-64).

He is an expert in Monte Carlo methods and their programming, having published many articles in the field, some of them highly prestigious references. His current interests are in the field of nuclear reactions for the production of neutrons and new routes for the production of radioisotopes for medical applications. He is an inventor of the patent application “Optimal Beam Shaping Assembly for BNCT” (P202030854, 9/08/2020)

María José Ruiz Magaña has a degree in Biological Sciences and a PhD in Inmunology from the Unversity of Granada. She is active researcher of the CTS-564 Research Group, in which she performs functions of direction and development of experimental models in the fields of antitumor therapy and study of the etiopathogenesis of endometriosis. She has studied of the induction of apoptosis in various models of tumor cells through the use of epigenetic drugs. Her work has also focused on neutron radiobiology, with the preparation of different tumor lines for irradiation with neutrons with and without boron compounds (BNCT) analyzing their radiobiological effectiveness as antitumor therapy, in experiments carried out at the Laue-Langevin Institute in Grenoble (ILL-Neutrons for Science), where she runs a biological Lab next to the neutron lines.

José Exposito, M.D. and Ph.D, is the Head of the Radiation Oncology Department at the University Hospital Virgen de las Nieves in Granada and professor of the Department of Radiology and Physical Medicine at the University of Granada. He is the leader of the Research group Oncologia Radioterápica at the  IBS GRANADA (Instituto de Investigación Biosanitaria de Granada).

He has been the Director of the Plan Integral de Oncología de Andalucía and principal investigator of different research projects in oncology. He is an active member of the Sociedad Española de Oncología Radioterápica (SEOR) and has published more than 50 research papers. He is the promoter of the first and only public facility in Spain for radiosurgery with GammaKnife, for the treatment of brain diseases.

José Manuel Llamas, M.D. and Ph.D, is the Head of the Nuclear Medicine Department at the University Hospital Virgen de las Nieves in Granada and associate professor of the Department of Radiology and Physical Medicine at the University of Granada.

He is a renowed expert in cutting-edge nuclear medicine procedures for diagnoses and therapies, and has been the President of the Sociedad Española de Medicina Nuclear. He is the leader of the Research group in Nuclear Medicine at the  IBS GRANADA (Instituto de Investigación Biosanitaria de Granada).
